Throughout history, there have been numerous instances of one group of people violating the rights and liberties of another. We discussed a variety of examples in class including the following:
The Holocaust – Jews and Nazi Germans
American Slavery – African Americans and White Americans
Dropping the Atomic Bomb – Japanese and Americans
The Civil War – North and South
Destruction of culture, etc. – Native Americans and White Americans
The Crusades – Muslims and Christians
Do you think it is acceptable for a group of people or an entire culture to hold a grudge against another for something that took place generations ago? For example, is it understandable for Native Americans to distrust and generally dislike White Americans for events that happened over 100 years ago? Are there any instances where its OK to hate another group of people? Explain your answer.

No, I don't think that it is acceptable to dislike another group for something that happend generations ago. In some cases I can see why people might be cautious around others but not hate others. I think that it isn't fair to hate other people when all you know about them is their race. It would be different if you actually knew the person and disliked them for other reasons than there race.
i agree with the anonymous! it is hard to tell if one human is different foranother unless you meet and hang out with them nad see their reall side! you never know when there is one bad apple!you also cant hate a whole race just because of one or two bad apples! you also cant hate a race because you parents or grandparents hate that rce because of somthing that happened to them!!
I totally DON'T think it is acceptable for a group of people or an entire culture to hold a grudge against another for something that took place generations ago.If I was sitting next to a nazi on a bus, I would not be scared that they would hurt me(If I was a jew). There anscestors might have hurt Jews, but that doesn't mean that they passed that job onto their grandchildren.I just think that we should all accept eachother for who we are no matter what religion we are.We should always look out so that this NEVER happens again. To ANYONE.
I think that hating a certain race for something they did 100 years ago is not right. For example, the Jews might hate the Germans but the present Germans aren't to blame. Verses, hating your classmate's father for murdering your mother. If I were in that position I would probably dislike that family entirely.
i have feelings on both sides really...if you dislike a group for somthing they did to your race a long time ago-its not THEIR fault-u may like dislike people who did things a long time ago-like the holocaust-i have much hate for the Natzis for what they did to the Jews and it really sofens my heart for them...I also think it is ok to be causious of races if they were known to have bad things-but dont hold a grudge against the innocent of today :)
I disagree that a group of people should beable to dislike each other after hundereds of years after a hard time in the country you are living in. But in some cases i could agree why that group of people would hate eachother. For example, the Nazis in Germany were horrible to Jewish people. I could see why some people would dislike the Nazi Germans. But other than that I think that hating another race for what happened hundereds ago is very wrong.
I think that if you had nothing to do with wars and slavery you should not be hated because you had nothing to do with it. People should not have the right to hold a grudge againt you. Like if a Jewish person holds a grudge on German people that had thing to do with the Holocaust; I think that it is just wrong. If you had something to do with African American slavery then African Americans have every right to hate you for all the horrible things that happend.

It is totally not acceptable for some one to hate a whole race for something that was done generations ago. I understand if someone is skeptical of somone else ar another race, but hating that race is totally unacceptable. I would also understand if a person hated a specific person or a family for something that was done this generation.
I think that inside of every human there will always be a hate. That is just how civilization has always worked. I think the past should be put behind you but not forgotten. People should understand that there are differences between cultures, religions, races, ect. In the presant day I think it is unacceptable to hate other individuals bacause of who they are or just for who their generations before them have been so uneducated that they made a horrible discision. Heres an example, like with the war in Iraq. I don't hate people from the middle east just because our government is dumb and is encouraging it.
